Ik ben de oprichter en het gezicht achter Opgezette Werelden — een plek waar insecten, wetenschap, kunst en verhalen vertellen op natuurlijke wijze samenkomen.
Wat begon als een persoonlijke fascinatie voor insecten, mineralen en vreemde kleine werelden, groeide langzaam uit tot een plek waar creativiteit alle ruimte krijgt. Door mijn relatie met mijn partner, Troch Margaux, werd mijn fantasie opnieuw aangewakkerd en werd mijn band met de natuur sterker dan ooit. Dat heeft me uiteindelijk ertoe aangezet om Opgezette Werelden op te richten.

I’m the founder and face behind Opgezette Werelden — a place where bugs, science, art, and storytelling naturally meet.
What began as a personal fascination with insects, minerals, and strange little worlds slowly grew into a space where creativity is allowed to breathe. Through my relationship with my partner, Troch Margaux, my imagination rekindled, and my connection to nature returned stronger than ever. That is what ultimately pushed me to build Opgezette Werelden.

Wat maken we hier precies?
Bij Opgezette Werelden werken we voornamelijk met opgezette insecten, die we omtoveren tot allerlei soorten kunstwerken.
We maken onder andere:

en alles wat onze verbeelding ons influistert
We beperken ons niet tot één vorm. Als we het kunnen dromen, kunnen we het maken.
What We Do
So what exactly do we create here?
At Opgezette Werelden, we mostly work with taxidermy of insects, which we turn into artworks of all kinds.
We build pieces such as:
frames
domes
floating frames
display boxes
miniature scenes
and anything else our creativity demands
We don’t limit ourselves to one form. If we dream it, we try to make it.
Commissies
We bieden ook maatwerk aan, inclusief stukken waarin de assen van dierbaren of huisdieren verwerkt worden. Stuur ons gerust jouw idee! We nemen contact met je op en bespreken alles samen via e-mail of een videogesprek. Vervolgens gaan we aan de slag met het ontwerp van jouw kunstwerk.
Je blijft bij elke stap betrokken: we tonen je de voortgang en luisteren naar jouw feedback. Zodra het werk klaar is, ontvang je een foto van het eindresultaat. Na jouw goedkeuring kan je het werk komen ophalen of laten verzenden.
Commissions
We also take on commissions, including pieces using ashes of loved ones or pets. When you send us your idea, we contact you, talk everything through (by email or video call), and afterwards we design your piece.
You can follow each step of the process if you want. Once everything is finished, we send you a picture and you can pick up the artwork or have it shipped.
Waar al dat moois vandaan komt
Alle specimens komen van een taxonoom uit Duitsland.
Een taxonoom is een bioloog die organismen (planten, dieren, micro-organismen) identificeert, beschrijft, benoemt en indeelt in een wetenschappelijk classificatiesysteem. Zijn wetenschappelijk onderzoek draagt bij aan het behoud van natuurgebieden.

Where Our Specimens Come From
Our insects come from a taxonomist in Germany.
A taxonomist is someone who studies and identifies species — often discovering new ones. He travels the world and contributes to scientific research that helps protect natural environments.
As he explains it:
“We only deal with very common species of vertebrates (bats, dracos, frogs, etc.) found in abundance on fruit plantations and eaten by the local communities. We never work with rare or protected species. All skulls and skeletons come from animals used as food by local families. Your purchase supports these families, rainforest conservation, and sustainable farming practices — just like buying dried insects does.”

Margaux Troch's Atelier
De kunstenares waar ik het meest mee samenwerk
Mijn partner, Troch Margaux, is de voornaamste kunstenaar en taxidermist met wie ik samenwerk. Ze studeerde beeldende kunst aan LUCA School of Arts Gent, waar ze zowel een bachelor als een master in grafiek en tekenkunst behaalde.
Haar thesis “Her-inneren” is een doorlopend artistiek onderzoek naar identiteit en de structuur van het “boek” als object. Een hoofdstuk van het werk is opgenomen in de publicatie A Theater of Wonders (2025).

The artist I work with most
My partner, Troch Margaux, is the main artist and taxidermist I collaborate with. She studied Fine Arts at LUCA School of Arts Ghent, earning both a Bachelor and Master in Printmaking and Drawing.
Her thesis “Re-membering” is an ongoing artistic research into identity and the structure of the “book” as an object. A chapter of the work is included in the publication A Theater of Wonders (2025).
In her own words :
“My studio work consists almost exclusively of series. Everything is interwoven — like a spider’s web where a single vibration ripples through the whole structure. I work slowly and pay close attention to detail.”
Op dit moment studeert Margaux Antropologie aan KU Leuven — de studie van de mens. Hoe geven mensen betekenis aan de wereld waarin ze leven? Haar onderzoek vloeit door in haar kunst, en uiteindelijk zullen haar etnografieën ook hier op dit platform worden gepubliceerd.
Ze is nauw betrokken bij de kunst die we maken: ze doet onderzoek naar specimens, helpt bij het ontwerpen van stukken en bouwt samen met mij kleine werelden.
Today, Margaux is also studying Anthropology at KU Leuven — the study of how people create meaning and how we connect to the world around us. Her research flows into her art, and eventually her ethnographies will be published here on this platform as well.
She is deeply involved in the artwork we make: researching specimens, helping design pieces, and building tiny worlds with me.
